Italian street artist blu, likely best known for his complex graffiti animations, has transformed a former military warehouse in rome into an expansive and colorful mural, canvassing the building’s surface in over 25 unique faces.Nearly 50 windows spanning three storeys become the eyes of each quirky character, wrapping the porto fluviale — now a residential site — in an eclectic, rainbow range of painted personalities. banana-clad and leaf covered faces are etched onto the existing framework, canvassing the original architectural details. the vibrant spectrum of overlapping illustrations introduces a lively atmosphere to the street, where the daily routine of passers-by is interrupted by the unexpected introduction of public art.

Glow-in-the-Dark Bike Path Inspired by a Van Gogh Painting

Van Gogh-Roosegaard Bicycle Path by Studio Roosegaarde

The Dutch-based Studio Roosegaarde just unveiled a stunning illuminated trail in Nuenen, Netherlands. Called Van Gogh-Roosegaard Bicycle Path, it’s based on the famous Vincent Van Gogh painting The Starry Night. This kilometer-long section is part of a cycle route through the province of Noord Brabant, where the artist was born and raised.

The swirling surface patterns are coated with a special paint that gathers enough energy during the day to glow after dark. In addition, there are LEDs along the sides of certain curves that cast extra light, and this means that the path is still partially lit if the weather is too cloudy to adequately charge it.

This display is both gorgeous and performs a valuable public service; cyclists now have a better way to see in the dark. And, it’s not the first time that Studio Roosegaarde has created something for the greater social good. They recently launched a pilot Smart Highway that uses the same photo-luminescent paint to mark the edges of the road.

Realist artist Ivan Hoo

These amazing hyper realistic drawings are so lifelike they could pass for photographs. The incredibly detailed works of art were created by self-taught artist Ivan Hoo, from Singapore, who earns a living from his realistic drawings and paintings.

The 31-year-old takes up to three days to complete the impressive pieces, which include animal portraits and still life drawings of everyday items such as a Starbucks cup. The A3 sketches are completed using a range of soft pastel pencils and are drawn from still life, or a photograph taken by Ivan himself. (Caters News)

Kris kuksi’s Antiquity in the faux at Mark Moore Gallery

asylum-art:

Kris Kuksi’s “Antiquity in the Faux” at Mark Moore Gallery

While Kris Kuksi’s baroque assemblages (first covered in HF Vol. 19) have an ornate aesthetic suited for marble or gilded bronze, his work is composed of carefully-chosen collections of commonplace, throwaway objects. Kuksi assembles dolls, jewelry, model parts and various consumerist debris into monumental dioramas. Within them, his characters are embroiled in a chaotic drama of violence and sex, which Kuksi carefully contains into symmetrical, harmonious compositions that appear deceptively decorative at a first glance. The Kansas-based artist will be showing his new body of work for his solo show, “Antiquity in the Faux,” opening at Mark Moore Gallery in Los Angeles on November 15.
