We are made of our Childhood books

Clever Ad Campaign Features Sculptures of Children Made Entirely from Books.

Working with the YCBE(Yokohama City Board of Education), a Dentsu Tokyo creative team led by creative director Miharu Matsunaga, has come up with a fantastic ad campaign designed to bring librarians back into libraries. To represent the notion that books shape who we are, Matsunaga and his team created sculptures of children made entirely from books. The sculptures were then photographed in various classrooms and libraries accompanied by short inspirational phrases like “We are made of our childhood books”

Stunning photography by David Lane

David Lane spent four months photographing the milky way over Yellowstone Park, and the result is a stunning night time rainbow.

10 Things You Should Drop From Your Life Starting Now

10 Things You Should Drop From Your Life Starting Now

A great post by Steven Aitchison

Do you know what changed Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam’s life after his failure?

“Defeat the defeatist tendency” are the words from a monk which changed Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam’s life after his greatest failure.

“Motivation is temporary and inspiration is permanent because motivation passes away after some time, while inspiration stays for the lifetime.”

The lines proves true in respect of the real life story of Dr. Abdul Kalam which is also penned down in his book #WingsOfFire.

The mentor who changed Dr. Kalam’s life is none other than Rishikesh Swami Sivananda who was born at Pathamadai in Tirunelveli district, but settled in Rishikesh.

Kalam was fond of flying high since his childhood and wanted to become a pilot. He took up aeronautical engineering and graduated in 1957. Kalam applied to the Air Force and completed his interview at the Air Force Selection Board at Dehradun in 1958. Out of 24 applicants, eight were to be shortlisted but after four days of difficult tasks, nine were selected — the ninth being Kalam. Since the Air Force wanted only eight, Kalam was left out.

A highly dejected Kalam decided to take a bus to Delhi via Rishikesh and Haridwar. At Rishikesh, some intuitive force made him take a dip in the River Ganges, and spotted an ashram. Kalam sat at the last row as Swami Sivananda, the founder of the ashram, was giving a discourse on Bhagavad Gita.

After his speech, the Swami chose two persons from the audience to ask questions and Kalam was one of them. In his book Wings of Fire, the former President recorded the moment — I introduced myself to Swamiji. My Muslim name aroused no reaction in him. Before I could speak any further, he enquired about the source of my sorrow.

In a deep voice, the Swami said, “Accept your destiny and go ahead with your life… Forget this failure, as it was essential to lead you to your destined path. Search, instead, for the true purpose of your existence. Become one with yourself, my son! Surrender yourself to the wish of God,” the Swamiji said.

Further, quoting ‘Bhagavad Gita’, the Swami recalled the advice of Lord Krishna to Arjuna when the latter was afraid of fighting in the Kurukshetra war — “Defeat the defeatist tendency.” That is a great message. The mantra “Defeat the defeatist tendency” is always with me and it comes to me whenever I’m in trouble, he wrote.

Kalam was really a great source of Inspiration and his teachings will last forever inspiring the future generations.

Some of his greatest inspiring teachings are:

  • To succeed in your mission, you must have single-minded devotion to your goal.
  • Excellence is a continuous process and not an accident.
  • Let us sacrifice our today so that our children can have a better tomorrow.
  • Life is a difficult game. You can win it only by retaining your birthright to be a person.
  • One of the very important characteristics of a student is to question. Let the students ask questions.
  • Life is a difficult game. You can win it only by retaining your birthright to be a person.
  • Unless India stands up to the world, no one will respect us. In this world, fear has no place. Only strength respects strength.
  • You have to dream before your dreams can come true.
  • Don’t take rest after your first victory because if you fail in second, more lips are waiting to say that your first victory was just luck.
  • If you want to shine like a sun. First burn like a sun.
  • It is very easy to defeat someone, but it is very hard to win someone
  • Thinking should become your capital asset, no matter whatever ups and downs you come across in your life.
  • Without your involvement you can’t succeed. With your involvement you can’t fail.
  • Dream transforms in to thoughts. And thoughts result in action.
  • For great men, religion is a way of making friends; small people make religion a fighting tool.
  • Success is when your signature changes into an autograph.

Kalam Sir you will always stay in our memories and ignite a bulb of inspiration in the coming generations for the centuries.

People In This world Are So Obsessed With Gold That Even Bappi Lahiri Looks Very Poor

By Sonali Mushahary

All that glitters is not gold.

These loony people have dared to prove it wrong.

Everybody accuses good ol Bappi Da for committing tacky gold crimes. But once you see what these guys have done, you’ll stop pointing fingers at poor Bappi. I meant that literally.

1. Datta ‘Gold Man’ Phuge – The businessman with a 3.5kg gold shirt worth Rs 1.42 crore

For this businessman from Pune, everything that glitters has to be gold. 15 goldsmiths worked 16 hours a day for 20 days, hammering 140,000 small pieces of gold, fastened with red Swarovsky crystals, to make Phuge’s dream come true.

And then he dresses it up with 7 kgs of gold accessories.

Just a shirt, are you kidding me?

He would settle for nothing less than a 24k gold suhaag raat worth Rs 3.6 crore

His bride was golden, inside out.

2. Indian politician, Pankaj Parakh, gifts himself a gold shirt worth Rs 1.4 crores on his birthday

A year after Phuge’s gold shirt painted the Internet gold, a National Congress member from Maharashtra ordered a similar monstrosity. “My family is hardly impressed or interested in my love for gold. They just ignore and accept it as a part of domestic life. But the rest of my extended family thinks I am weird,” Parakh told reporters. We wonder why.

3. Arab royalty gift their kids gold loos

Don’t be surprised, this is one of the less eccentric things Arabs do.

4. Kim and Kanye have FOUR gold toilets, worth $750,000. Take that Arabs!

And those aren’t the most precious ass-ets they have.

Imagine the extravagance, when most of us won’t even be able to afford even this:

5. When this Mexican cartel leader wanted a gold AK 47. He got it.

Ramiro Pozos Gonzalez was arrested in 2012 and his precious toy was confiscated.

But, Pozos don’t give a shit!

6. This artist invented pills that will turn your poop golden

If you can’t afford a gold loo, that’s alright. For $ 425, you can poop bricks, gold bricks. Thanks, Mr. Tobias Wong, you are the shit!

7. And then someone even auctioned his gold plated poop for $ 500,000

Terence Koh created some expensive shitty  art, quite literally. What amuses me is that someone even bought it!

8. The heights of pointlessness: Gold Nano worth Rs 22 crores

Goldplus Jewellery, a product of Titan, unveiled this abomination in 2011 to celebrate India’s 5000 years jewellery-making industry. 80 kgs of gold, 20 kgs of silver, hundreds of diamonds and precious stones… and the same impotent engine.

9. Gold dress for $ 124,760. Because jewellery is too mainstream.

Turkish jeweller, Ahmet Atakan, created this outfit that lets you show off your wealth… and a lot of skin.

10. Lady Gaga made Wolverine cry with these gold claws

Please don’t hurt me!

What’s that? Death Star?

11. Cash is for the poor. This ATM shits gold bricks.

This vending machine dispenses 320 kinds of gold items including gold bars and gold coins.

12. The world’s most expensive car: Gold Lamborghini worth $ 7.5 million

Even Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are too poor for this. They rented it out once. This car was made to remind rich people that they’re still poor.

There, there Bappi Da. Want some tissues?

“Kusukusu” The largest treehouse in Japan build around a 300 years old tree

Takashi Kobayashi is the mastermind creator behind Kusukusu, the largest treehouse built around a towering, 300-year-old camphor tree in Atami, Japan. Completed in March 2014, Kusukusu is the result of collaborative work between Kobayashi and Hiroshi Nakamura of NAP Architects for the Risonare Resort.

After 3D-scanning hundreds of points on the tree, the team created a steel trellis that threads throughout the branches, forming a support system that’s both architecturally sound and visually arresting. The most worderful thing is that the self-standing structure doesn’t touch the tree at all, leaving it unharmed and free to grow further.

Perfect Balance Between Nature and Architecture by Dionisio Gonzalez

The Surreal Housing Projects By Dionisio Gonzalez

“Trans-Acciones,” the latest collection of artist Dionisio Gonzales is a set of surreal architectural designs that are not only amazing but equally beautiful. His project’s workplaces, mobile observatories and occasional retreats are balanced excellently.

Gonzales is well known for his architectural visualizations for disaster-prone areas. One cannot take his eyes off from the powerful and vast panoramic sceneries of these imaginary buildings.

All structures are set on pillars of reinforced concrete to support a horizontal structural plane. The composition’s idea is to leave the space at ground level open so it doesn’t corrupt in any way the surrounding environment. It comprises in a way what could be the ultimate equilibrium between nature and architecture.

If you follow this, it will change your life forever

“And this too, shall pass.”

The essence of life wrapped in a single phrase.

Whatever you need to do, your heart already knows it. Go for it. Don’t hesitate. Don’t create doubts. You have one life and it’s too short to waste on irrelevant things. Even a seconds doubt can snatch the opportunity from you to write a great history.

Nothing is permanent in this world, not even your sorrows nor your happiness. All will pass away. Only memories will last. Listen your heart and act fast. Go pursue your dreams.

Read a wonderful article on “And this too, shall pass.” which can really change your life.
